What It Does
Copper Tripeptide-1 is a synthetic peptide complex consisting of the tripeptide glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine bound to a copper ion (Cu2+). Originally discovered in human plasma and later found to decline with age, this blue-colored peptide is valued in anti-aging formulations for its ability to support collagen synthesis and provide antioxidant benefits. Formulators choose GHK-Cu for its dual action of promoting skin repair processes while protecting against oxidative damage, making it a premium active ingredient in sophisticated skincare products.

Ingredient Compatibility
Known Interactions
Ascorbic Acid reduces Cu2+ to Cu1+, deactivating copper peptides and generating free radicals via Fenton-like reactions. These must not be combined.
Copper peptides and Retinol operate through competing pathways (copper promotes collagen synthesis while retinol increases cell turnover). Combined use may increase irritation and reduce peptide stability.
Low pH from Glycolic Acid can destabilize the copper-peptide bond, releasing free copper ions. Use in separate products.
EDTA is a strong chelator that can strip copper from peptide complexes, deactivating GHK-Cu. Avoid EDTA as a chelating agent in copper peptide formulations; use a non-competing alternative.
Zinc competes with Copper for absorption via metallothionein binding. High zinc supplementation (>40mg) without copper can induce copper deficiency. If combining, maintain a Zn:Cu ratio of 8-15:1.
