What It Does
Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate is a stable, water-soluble derivative of vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid) that has been phosphorylated to improve stability and reduce irritation. Unlike pure ascorbic acid which degrades rapidly in water and requires very low pH, SAP remains stable at near-neutral pH levels and converts to active vitamin C once absorbed into the skin through enzymatic action. Formulators favor it for its dual benefits of providing antioxidant protection and brightening effects without the formulation challenges and potential irritation associated with L-ascorbic acid, making it particularly suitable for sensitive skin formulations.
