What It Does
Arthrospira platensis is a blue-green microalgae (cyanobacterium) cultivated in alkaline freshwater environments, and in its organic certified form it is grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers under controlled conditions. It is exceptionally rich in phycocyanin, a unique blue pigment-protein complex with potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, as well as proteins, essential amino acids, vitamins B12 and E, beta-carotene, and gamma-linolenic acid. Formulators choose organic spirulina for its multifunctional bioactive profile — delivering skin-conditioning, antioxidant protection, and barrier-supporting benefits — while also appealing to clean beauty and sustainability-focused formulations due to its highly renewable, low-land-use cultivation.
