Known Interactions
Calcium inhibits both heme and non-heme iron absorption by 50-60% when taken together. These minerals compete for the same absorption pathways. Separate by at least 2 hours or formulate for different serving times.
Iron and Zinc compete for the DMT1 transporter when taken as inorganic salts at high doses. At supplemental doses (>25mg each), absorption of both is reduced 30-50%. Use chelated forms or separate doses.
Iron + Tannins form dark-colored insoluble complexes (ink-like precipitate), common in tea/coffee + iron fortification. Use iron bisglycinate or EDTA-chelated iron to prevent.
EDTA chelates free iron strongly. Intentional in some applications (prevents oxidation catalysis) but can reduce iron bioavailability in supplements/beverages. Verify this is the intended behavior.
