AI for Real Consumer Products: How Arcade and Made By Genie Each Cover Different Corners of a New Category
Arcade and Made By Genie both turn AI prompts into real physical products, but they operate in different material corners of the same emerging category. Arcade routes to artisan production for custom jewelry and home goods. Made By Genie routes to contract manufacturers for indie CPG brand development.
If you have searched for "the first AI that can create real consumer products," you have probably seen two names: Arcade and Made By Genie. The framing sounds competitive. It is not. We are sister companies operating in different corners of the same new category. Here is what each is built for and when to reach for each.
(Disclosure: I am the founder of Made By Genie. The framing below is honest. Arcade is a great company doing something different from what we are doing.)
A category that did not exist three years ago
Three years ago, the only AI products that could turn natural language into real-world output were image and text generators. The output was digital. Today, a small number of companies are making AI produce real physical things. Arcade and Made By Genie are two of those companies, operating in different material domains.
The shared thesis: AI can compress the design and creation steps that used to require deep specialist expertise and large capital, and route the output to a real production system that ships a physical good. The differences are in WHICH physical goods, WHICH production system, and WHO the user is.
Arcade: custom physical goods through an artisan network
Arcade was founded by Mariam Naficy, who previously founded Minted. The platform launched in beta on September 20, 2024 starting with custom jewelry. In 2025 they raised a $25 million Series A from Canaan Partners and Forerunner Ventures (about $42 million raised in total, with earlier investment from Sound Ventures, Reid Hoffman, and Karlie Kloss) and expanded into custom home goods.
How it works: you describe what you want ("a silver necklace with a mountain pendant," "ladybug earrings"), Arcade's AI generates a design, and Arcade's network of artisans and producers makes the physical piece and ships it to you. Within three months of beta launch the platform reportedly produced more than 650,000 custom designs.
What Arcade is great at: turning consumer creativity into a real, beautifully made, one-of-one physical product. The substrate is artisan craft (jewelry, home decor) and the value chain is design generation plus artisan production plus direct-to-consumer fulfillment. Arcade is a custom-product marketplace built around an AI design layer.
The user is typically a consumer who wants a specific personalized object. They are not running a brand. They are buying a thing.
Made By Genie: indie CPG brand development through formulation plus contract manufacturers
Made By Genie is built for indie founders who want to develop a real consumer products brand and ship it under their own label. The categories are CPG: skincare, color cosmetics, hair care, fragrance, sunscreen, deodorant, intimate care, supplements (human and pet), non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages, food and snacks, sauces and condiments, home care, candles, CBD topicals and ingestibles, pet grooming. Eighteen categories live as of May 2026.
How it works: you pitch a product idea, work with the AI to develop a custom formulation (with INCI names, percentages, COGS estimates, regulatory disclosures, recommended packaging), get it chemist-reviewed when you are ready, and we match you with a contract manufacturer that fits your category, your MOQ, and your budget. You ship the product under your brand label.
What Genie is great at: collapsing the bottleneck that gates indie CPG launches. Historically a founder needed access to a cosmetic chemist, an industry network to find a small-MOQ manufacturer, formulation knowledge, and 50 thousand dollars or more in capital to get from idea to viable shelf product. Genie compresses that to weeks and a few hundred dollars in concierge tier services.
The user is typically a founder building a brand. They are not buying a single product. They are launching a product line.
Different material substrates, different value chains
The cleanest way to see the difference is the material substrate and the production system each platform routes to.
Arcade routes to artisan production: handcraft, small-batch jewelry making, home decor production. The expertise the AI compresses is design. The expertise the production system applies is craft.
Genie routes to contract manufacturers and partner labs: formulation science, regulatory-compliant production, scaled CPG manufacturing. The expertise the AI compresses is chemistry plus brand-strategy. The expertise the production system applies is regulated industrial production.
Different bottlenecks. Different output. Different customers.
When to reach for which
Reach for Arcade when you want a single beautiful custom physical object: a piece of jewelry that does not exist anywhere else, a custom home decor item, an artisan-crafted personal good. You are the buyer. The product is the output.
Reach for Made By Genie when you want to develop and ship a consumer product line under your own brand: a skincare line, a beverage product, a supplement, a fragrance, anything in the CPG categories we support. You are the brand. The product line is the output.
A founder building a CPG brand uses Genie. A consumer wanting a custom physical good uses Arcade. The two paths do not overlap, and a founder might genuinely use both for different purposes in their life.
The category is going to be enormous
The combined opportunity (AI plus real physical production) is one of the largest emerging categories in tech. Three years ago it did not exist. Five years from now there will be specialized AI-plus-production companies for every material substrate worth specializing in. Arcade and Genie are early in their respective corners. There will be others.
